Godfrey Approves 2026-2027 Concrete Pavement Replacement Program

GODFREY – The Village of Godfrey is set to continue its Concrete Pavement Replacement Program, with Mont Vista Avenue and other areas set to get new concrete slabs over the next two years.
Members of the village’s Finance Committee and Village Board of Trustees last week unanimously approved the continuation of the Annual Concrete Pavement Replacement Program for 2026 and 2027.
Village Engineer Rich Beran outlined the expected concrete work to be completed in 2026 and 2027 in a memo to village trustees updating them on the progress made so far under the program.
The village first began evaluating the condition of its concrete slabs in 2018 on a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 representing a brand-new slab and 5 representing a completely shattered or destroyed slab. According to Beran, slabs between ranks 3-5 are considered “distressed” and are then considered for replacement.
The total number of “distressed” slabs in Godfrey has gradually decreased over the life of the program, with significant decreases in the most severe categories of ranks 4 and 5. However, the village has seen an increase in Category 3 slabs, which Beran said indicates “the worst slabs are being removed and the remaining distressed slabs are generally moderate in severity.”
While Beran described the trend as “positive” overall, he noted that “a steeper reduction would be ideal.” However, he also outlined the significant progress made in the Storeyland Subdivision and on West Woodfield Drive, with plans for more concrete replacement throughout the village.
“The focus for the first few years was on the Storeyland Subdivision, as it ranked the most poorly for concrete pavement condition,” Beran stated in the memo. “All of the concrete pavement within the subdivision has since been replaced and we have moved on to replace all of the pavement along West Woodfield Drive, and next year, Chelsea Court will have been fully replaced.”
Beran said the next two years will see significant concrete reconstruction in key areas identified during the latest evaluation of the village’s road conditions.
In addition to completing the reconstruction of Chelsea Court in 2026, village staff also expects to start reconstructing the concrete pavement on Mont Vista Avenue. After Mont Vista Avenue’s anticipated completion in 2027, future focus areas include Northport Drive, the Straube Court Subdivision, Savannah Trace Subdivision, and Lexington Estates Subdivision.
