GODFREY – Godfrey Village Board members quickly and unanimously passed a corrected version of the decreased tax levy ordinance approved earlier this month.
At their last meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, trustees were originally set to approve a “flat” tax levy representing neither an increase or decrease over last year’s levy. Trustee Mike Fisher then proposed lowering the levy by 0.5%, which passed by a vote of 5-1, with Trustee Rick Lauschke casting the sole vote against the levy decrease.
However, the approved ordinance did not include the updated paperwork reflecting Fisher’s 0.5% decrease, prompting the need to pass a corrected ordinance.
Village trustees held a Special Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025 to pass the corrected tax levy ordinance just one week before the Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025 deadline for local municipalities to submit their tax levies to their respective counties.
