SPRINGFIELD–Today, Governor JB Pritzker issued the following statement following the passage of HB5295 to ensure that patient medical records related to safe, legal abortion care in Illinois remain private:

“Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, out-of-state entities have attempted to use every tool available to punish women who have sought abortions. The Reproductive Health Records Privacy Act is the most recent action Illinois is taking to ensure that patients retain full control over their private health information. I’d especially like to acknowledge Representative Mary Beth Canty and Senator Celina Villanueva for their hard work in getting this across the finish line. I look forward to signing this bill into law to fortify the protections around choice and consent, and that anyone receiving safe, legal abortion care here will not be criminalized.”
