Granite City Man Charged With Reckless Discharge Of Firearm

GRANITE CITY – A Granite City man faces a felony charge after allegedly repeatedly firing a weapon in a reckless manner.

Anthony M. Johnson Jr., 27, of Granite City, was charged on Oct. 29, 2025, with a Class 4 felony count of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Johnson allegedly knowingly discharged a firearm in a reckless manner on Sept. 26, 2025, endangering the bodily safety of a nearby individual by firing the weapon in close proximity to the victim.

A petition to deny Johnson’s pretrial release from custody was filed by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. According to the petition, Johnson’s neighbor called 911 to report Johnson was “outside repeatedly firing a gun in the air.”

The petition states Johnson and the victim met to discuss a previous argument held over text, but when the victim “refused to continue the argument, [Johnson] fired in the air repeatedly.”

The case against Johnson was presented by the Granite City Police Department, and he was ordered remanded to jail for his initial court appearance.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
