Granite City Man Charged With Stealing Jewelry, Cash During Home Burglary

GRANITE CITY – A Granite City man has been charged with residential burglary and theft after allegedly stealing wedding rings and other valuables from an elderly victim’s home.

Brian E. Clark, 48, of Granite City, was charged with a Class 1 felony count of residential burglary and a Class 3 felony count of theft on Dec. 16, 2025.

Clark allegedly knowingly entered a Granite City residence without authority on May 26, 2024 while intending to commit a theft. He reportedly stole two wedding rings and other items of jewelry, in addition to $800 in U.S. currency including $600 in cash and $200 in coins.

Granite City Police officers responded to a reported residential burglary on the same day in the 2400 block of Hodges Avenue, “where an 87-year-old victim returned from a family wedding to find her home burglarized through a basement window with $5,800 in currency and jewelry stolen,” according to the state’s petition to deny Clark’s pretrial release from custody.

Blood evidence from the point of entry at the burglary scene was then sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab, which confirmed a DNA match to Brian E. Clark on Oct. 10, 2025, the petition states. While these lab results were still pending, Clark was arrested on April 27, 2025 in a separate case of theft before being granted pretrial release without additional conditions on June 27, 2025.

After the DNA results came back and a department-wide alert regarding Clark was issued in October, Clark reportedly continued to evade arrest until Nov. 20, 2025. The following day, he reportedly confessed that he “cut himself during entry, stole jewelry and traded it for methamphetamine, and has more than 20 prior burglary/theft arrests.”

The latest case against Clark was presented by the Granite City Police Department, and he currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
