GODFREY - Village of Godfrey officials have approved a renovation project for the vortex chamber at the Great Godfrey Corn Maze, a popular feature of the village’s haunted maze attraction in Glazebrook Park, Mayor Mike McCormick said.

Trustees approved at the Tuesday night, July 7, 2026, board meeting a proposal from Stutz Excavating Inc. for structural work on the vortex chamber, which is located near the corn maze and gazebo in Godfrey. McCormick said the work involves reconstruction of the structure.

“This is just some reconstruction work,” McCormick said.

He said the vortex box, which is part of the haunted maze, needs to be straightened up and that Stutz is doing the work.

The project calls for replacing and renovating the vortex chamber structure to enhance the attraction and improve its appearance. Planned features include vinyl siding, a metal roof, and doors.

According to the proposal dated June 16, 2026, Stutz Excavating Inc., of 3837 Fosterburg Road in Alton, proposed furnishing the materials, labor, and equipment for the project for $20,775.

“It is so very popular,” McCormick said of the maze.

The Great Godfrey Corn Maze is one of the village’s well-known attractions, and the renovation targets a key structure associated with the haunted maze.
