Hailey Handler Leads East Alton-Wood River Scoring Despite Tough Loss

Despite a 15-7 fourth quarter advantage, EA-WR could not overcome the earlier scoring gap established by Marissa.

DUPO — The East Alton-Wood River Lady Oilers faced a challenging night Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, at the Dupo Cat Classic Tournament, falling to Marissa 47-27.

Marissa established an early advantage, leading 14-7 after the first quarter. The Lady Oilers were unable to score in the second quarter as Marissa's defense held strong, resulting in a 22-7 halftime lead for Marissa.

In the third quarter, Marissa extended their lead to 38-16. EAWR’s Kaylynn Buttry, one of the team’s top scorers, encountered foul trouble during the period and was on the bench most of the quarter.

Despite outscoring Marissa 15-7 in the final quarter, EAWR was unable to overcome the deficit.

EAWR was led by Hailey Handler with 12 points and Kaylynn Buttry with 8 points.

Marissa’s top performers included Peyton Biekert, who scored 18 points, and Kennedy Trieb, who added 12.
