IDOT To host Belleville Snowbird Hiring Session As 286 Metro East Jobs Open

The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold an Aug. 18 information session in Belleville for seasonal snow-and-ice removal jobs across 11 Metro East counties.

BELLEVILLE — The Illinois Department of Transportation will host an information session Aug. 18, 2026, in Belleville as it seeks to hire 286 seasonal workers to help with snow and ice removal in the Metro East and surrounding counties during the winter months.

The session is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Illinois Department of Employment Security, 7650 Magna Drive. IDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and assist with the application process.

The department is hiring seasonal workers in Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Greene, Jersey, Madison, Marion, Monroe, Randolph, St. Clair, and Washington counties.

Both full-time winter highway maintainers and hourly winter highway maintainers are being hired to help maintain more than 45,000 lane miles statewide during the winter months. The positions require workers to respond promptly to emerging weather situations for snow and ice removal and be ready to work in emergency conditions at any time, including nights, weekends and holidays.

The starting salary for full-time positions is $6,255 per month. Hourly workers are paid $27.79 an hour.

Applicants must have a valid commercial driver’s license and email address and undergo a criminal background check. A pre-employment physical, vision test and drug and alcohol screening are also required.

A new law provides veterans’ preference for the seasonal positions, and veterans are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be selected based on availability, job-related experience and qualifications.

Applications for snow removal operators and winter salaried highway maintainers, also known as snowbirds, must be completed online at https://illinois.jobs2web.com by Friday, Aug. 21. IDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and assist in the application process.
