“We look forward to honoring Marines across Illinois with the traditional cake-cutting ceremony commemorating the 250th anniversary of its founding,” said Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Director Terry Prince. “This is a special recognition of the Marines' core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, which they demonstrate in service to our nation.”

Illinois partnered with the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, which has been leading a nationwide effort to ensure each state hosts a cake-cutting ceremony.

The custom-made cake will be created by Turano Bakery Company, a local member of the American Bakers Association, which is donating cakes for ceremonies in every state.
