On May 12, 2026, Jersey County Board members unanimously approved a recommendation from the Public Safety Committee to purchase a replacement Sheriff’s Squad Car from the Public Safety Fund.

“We had a sheriff’s deputy’s car that was totaled that we need to replace,” Chairman Mark Wagner said. “We got a pretty good deal on a car.”

Wagner said the reimbursement from insurance totaled $23,390.34, which will be combined with $36,350.66 in Public Safety Sales Tax funds for a total of $59,741 to purchase the car from Morrow Brothers Ford in Greenfield, Ill.

Sheriff Nick Manns said the new squad car will come mostly fully equipped, with the exception of one rifle rack, which will still need to be installed but is included in the purchase price.

County officials also approved a recommendation from the Building & Grounds Committee to install a new automatic handicap door opener and closer at the Jersey County Courthouse.

The board unanimously accepted a $3,947 bid from Jun Construction to remove the existing door opener and install a newly provided door opener at the courthouse’s accessible entrance. Payment is set to be made upon completion of the job, though no completion date was specified.
