Jerseyville Preps for Next "Rock the Block" Concert Featuring Jersey Native Mattie Schell

JERSEYVILLE - The City of Jerseyville has several more “Rock the Block” performances planned, and the community is invited to come out and enjoy.

From 6–9 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, Nashville recording artist Mattie Schell — a Jerseyville native — will return home for a performance under the water tower. Two more dates are planned later this summer. Jerseyville’s Director of Tourism Will Strang looks forward to welcoming Riverbend residents to town for the experience.

“It’s one of those things where we just really like the idea of having an outdoor concert that moves around the community to hopefully encourage people to come out and support the local businesses and really hopefully generate some community feel,” he said.

The Rock the Block concerts are local favorites, and the season’s first concert in May featuring Jake Maurer drew an impressive crowd. Strang expects Schell will receive an equally enthusiastic welcome. She’ll be followed by The Yacht Rockers on Aug. 14 and Porch Cafe on Sept. 11.

The July 4 celebration starts with an ice cream social at 4 p.m. at the Jersey County Courthouse, where there will then be a reading of the Declaration of Independence at 5 p.m. Schell will play from 6–9 p.m., and then the audience is encouraged to make its way to the Jersey County fairgrounds for fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

The Jersey County Fair will open a few weeks later, and Christmas in July is scheduled for July 25 in downtown Jerseyville. Founders Week in early August will commemorate the founding of Jersey County with several activities, to be announced later this summer.

Labor Day weekend will include a pickleball tournament, vendors and other fun, as Labor Day is the 250th day of the year and Strang wants to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary all year long.

Strang and his team are gearing up for Rock the Block in the meantime. He highlighted the fun of welcoming big acts with a local tie to Jerseyville, like Schell, who was raised in town.

“It’s a way to hopefully bring some really fun, unique acts to the city. We’ve got local connections too,” he added. “That’s certainly the most important thing for me, to have the community come out and really feel like we are coming together to really support one another.”

He emphasized that all of these events aim to bring the town together, support local businesses, and foster a sense of community. Especially as the nation celebrates its 250th birthday, Strang hopes the small town Americana feel is a lot of fun for Jerseyville residents and guests at all of their events.

“Just being together and supporting one another, and knowing that we’re there together,” he said. “We’re excited to keep bringing these activities to the community and always excited for the unique community support we can bring out. We’ll just have a really fun evening together.”
