Marion Runners Finish In Top Two, SLUH Wins Granite City Invitational Meet, Edwardsville Comes In Third, O'Fallon Fourth, Triad Sixth
McGinness clocked 15:25.27 to lead the Tigers, finishing just outside the top ten in a field packed with strong individual performances.

GRANITE CITY - A pair of runners from Marion finished in the top two spots, while the area's leading finisher was Triad's Caden Meier, who would end up eighth, as St. Louis University High won the boys' championship in the 52nd running for the Pete Robinson/Harry Lang Granite City Cross Country Invitational Meet Saturday morning at Wilson Park in Granite City.
The meet is named after the longtime cross country and track coaches at the former Granite City North High School, and it's considered one of the area's top meets to open the season. Conditions were favorable, with warm temperatures underneath a sunny sky, and not much humidity in the air.
The Junior Billikens won the team title with 68 points, while Marion was second at 132 points, Edwardsville came in third at 138 points, O'Fallon was fourth with 185 points, and Mt. Vernon rounded out the top five with 188 points. Triad was sixth with 204 points, Farmington, Mo., was seventh at 220 points, tied with Metro-East Lutheran, also with 220 points, with Farmington taking seventh and Metro-East eighth on a tiebreak, Roxana was ninth at 233 points, and Waterloo rounded out the second five at 242 points.
Among other area teams, Mascoutah was 12th at 309 points, Belleville West finished 13th with 323 points, Highland came in 14th at 332 points, Freeburg was 16th at 360 points, Jersey finished 17th at 391 points, in 18th place was Collinsville with 464 points, 19th place went to Belleville East at 517 points, in 20th place was O'Fallon First Baptist Academy at 562 points, in 21st place was East St. Louis with 614 points, finishing in 22nd place was Breese Central with 622 points, coming in 23rd place was Dupo at 650 points, and tying for 24th place was both Columbia and Breese Mater Dei Catholic, both at 653 points, with Columbia taking 24th and Mater Dei 25th on a tiebreak.
Raphael Greer of the Wildcats won the race at 14:35.06 for a three-mile course, with Marion teammate Gabriel Greer finishing second at 14:35.48, John Paul Wildermuth of SLUH was third at 14:53.41, in fourth place was Adam Galvan of Chatham Glenwood, coming in at 15:00.01, fifth place went to Charles Ray of Quincy at 15:06.30, James Senaldi of Ft. Zumwalt West, in O'Fallon, Mo., was sixth at 15:17.33, finishing in seventh place was Nathan Khouri of the Junior Billikens at 15:18.20, Meier placed eighth at 15:20.14, in ninth place was Axtin Brune of Farmington at 15:20.50, and rounding out the top ten was SLUH's Jonah Ebenhoh at 15:23.24.
Will McGinness of Edwardsville finished 11th at 15:25.27, with 12th place going to Nathanial Webber of Webster Groves, Mo. at 15:31.05, the 13th place finisher was Dean Hemmer of Metro-East at 15:31.96, 14th place went to William Green of Mt. Vernon at 15:33.60, with Farmington's Ayden Wiles placing 15th at 15:33.69, finishing in 16th place was Robby Ross of Freeburg at 15:36.91, coming in 17th place was Cedric Johnson of Harrisburg, who had a time of 15:37.82, 18th place went to Benjamin Lown of O'Fallon at 15:38.38, finishing in 19th place was Jordan Tapia of Marion at 15:39.56, and rounding out the second ten was Noah Crump of Roxana at 15:39.00.
The top runner from West was Nick Rossi, who came in 23rd at 15:43.93, while Logan Kearbey led Civic Memorial with a 26th-place finish at 15:46.95. Caleb Knobloch was the top runner for Highland, coming in 27th at 15:49.34. Luke Smith led Waterloo with a time of 15:55.20, Aiden Green led Staunton with a time of 16:05.33, Chase Cummins led Collinsville with a time of 16:09.01, Adam Jansen led Belleville Althoff Catholic with a time of 16:12.71, Landon Harris was the leader for the host Warriors at 16:16.89, Chris White was Mascoutah's top runner at 16:22.16, Kaden Strohbeck led Jersey with a time of 16:39.77, Jackson Moore was the best runner for First Baptist, coming in at 17:23.50, Hubert Weary was Columbia's best runner at 17:38.66, Ethan Becker was the top runner for Mater Dei at 17:51.16, Alton was led by Gustavo Alcazar at 17:52.82, Keenan Miksell was the top runner for Belleville East at 17:03.35, Maryville Christian was led by Chase Lading at 18:05.15, Robert Harris led East Side with a time of 18:17.82. Xavier Knapp was Breese Central's top runner at 18:31.06, Gabe Theims was the leader for Father McGivney Catholic at 19:25.50, Angel Hueso-Cruz was the leader for Dupo at 19:35.30, Amjad Adams was the top runner for Lebanon at 19:41.76, Noah Willeford was the leader for East Alton-Wood River at 20:53.53, and Zion Williams led Marissa-Coulterville with a time of 21:35.52.Dan Brannan also contributed to this story.
