Father McGivney coach Jason Turkington pointed to a penalty-kick save by reserve goalkeeper Madelyn Pamatot as a turning point after what he described as an explosive start by Edwardsville. Pamatot substituted in specifically for the penalty kick, and regular goalkeeper Peyton Ellis returned on the next opportunity.

“Edwardsville's Gabby Thompson's a good player; they have good players all over the field, but so do we. Our girls came out, maybe not as intensely as they did. I don't know; we were ready to play. Edwardsville was just top class in the first 15 minutes, and we survived. Then, we took control of the game for a little bit, and we were able to tie it up at the end,” Turkington said.

Coach Turkington said the match against Edwardsville featured high-level play.

“It was good,” Turkington said. “It was a fun game to watch. There were a couple of moments, back and forth, but for a high school soccer match, that was top quality, for sure.”

The draw left Father McGivney at 14-1-2, with its ties coming at O’Fallon and Edwardsville.

“Our next couple of weeks are still going to be heavy,” Turkington said. “We have some really tough road games leading up to the postseason, but that's why we made the schedule.”

Father McGivney is scheduled to play Metro-East Lutheran at home Monday at 5 p.m., host Waterloo Gibault Catholic on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., and play at Belleville Althoff Catholic on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
