Multiple Felony Charges Filed After Officer Shooting in Granite City
Grand jury charges DJ W Marshall with attempted murder and weapon possession following a December shooting involving a police officer in Granite City.
MADISON COUNTY — A Madison County grand jury indicted DJ W. Marshall, 26, on Thursday, December 18, 2025, charging him with multiple felonies related to a December 5, 2025, incident involving a Granite City Police officer.
Marshall faces four counts: attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender, and felon in possession of a weapon. The charges stem from an incident in which Marshall allegedly fired multiple shots at Officer Timmons, striking him in the abdomen.

Granite City Police Officer Tyler Timmons was performing his official duties at the time.
According to the indictment, Marshall knowingly took substantial steps toward committing first-degree murder by discharging a firearm at Officer Timmons, a peace officer. Timmons was taken to a St. Louis hospital and was in the hospital for a week before being released. He continues to recover from his injuries in the incident.
The aggravated battery charge alleges that Marshall caused bodily harm to the officer by firing the weapon without legal justification. Additionally, Marshall is accused of possessing a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun despite previous felony convictions for burglary in 2021 and 2023.
The attempted first-degree murder charge carries a sentencing range of 20 to 80 years in the Department of Corrections, while the aggravated battery charge includes an enhanced penalty of 15 to 60 years. The possession charges are classified as Class X and Class 3 felonies, respectively.
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
These charges, as well as the statements made herein, are based upon probable cause. The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
