ALTON - A new downtown Alton shop has quickly become a local favorite.
Persnickety by Jen Farley offers a wide variety of antique, vintage and new items, from lamps and furniture to home decor and jewelry, as well as a fresh flower bar. As the holidays approach, Farley shares that she hopes to help Riverbend residents find the perfect gifts and items to keep them happy all season long.
“I never know what I’m going to find. I like to say that my items find me so I can help them find their owners,” Farley said.
She noted that it’s “hard to say” what exactly is in the shop at any given moment, since her inventory varies so widely based on what she finds at markets or through her vendors. You can visit the official Persnickety by Jen Farley Facebook page to see some of her current featured items.
Farley is also excited to introduce her fresh flower bar. You can purchase flowers by the stem or buy a Posy Pass, where you pre-pay for your flowers for the month.
If you purchase a $50 Posy Pass, you receive free flowers and 10% off your other purchases at Persnickety for the month. If you buy a $100 Posy Pass, you receive 15% off, and 20% off when you purchase a $150 Posy Pass. Farley encourages people to stop by to grab flowers and gifts for the holiday season, or simply to “just treat yourself to fresh flowers every week” in the dreary winter months.
Farley also expressed her gratitude to be a part of the downtown Alton community. She is thankful for the other shops and entrepreneurs who have filled up the downtown district, and she can’t wait to see the region continue to grow with all of this local support.
“We’re very lucky here in Alton in our downtown district,” she said. “We have such a variety of shops. We have a little something for everyone. We’ve got vintage. We’ve got plants. You name it, it’s down here.”
As part of Farley’s love for her hometown, it’s also important to her to give back. She shared that she chooses a nonprofit every month to which she donates 5% of her gross sales. In December, she will be donating to Riverbend Family Ministries as a way to show her appreciation for the Riverbend region and the work they do to help others.
“It’s my way to kind of give back to the community,” she said. “This is my hometown, and I’m glad to be here.”
Farley hopes to see many new and familiar faces in her shop as the winter continues. She noted that she has something for everyone, from Alton-themed ornaments to a six-foot-tall birdcage, and will continue to bring in new inventory every week.
