Principia College Students Win First Place at Washington University Skandalaris Hackathon
The student-led Applied Computational Modeling Club took the top prize with Pentimento, an app concept for turning room scans into 3D property models.
ST. LOUIS - During the 2026 Washington University Skandalaris Hackathon in St. Louis, Principia College students placed first in the competition.
Principia College’s Applied Computational Modeling Club (ACMC) is a student-founded and student-led organization that is currently in its second year of running. At the Skandalaris Hackathon, the team designed and presented the original concept of Pentimento: An app that transforms a room scan into a 3D property model, providing users a documented record for property-condition disputes.

The ACMC team of three competed against 25 other teams, consisting of experts in the AI industry and PhD candidates with deep technical and academic experience. With the first-place prize of $750, the team plans to further develop their app and market-test in the St. Louis region.
Principia College students are consistently breaking the mold of traditional education. The Skandalaris Hackathon was Business Administration and Digital Arts sophomore Volodymyr Hrimov’s second-ever hackathon, where he earned his second win. Ivan Vashchenko, a senior studying Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science, is the ACMC founder and president.
