ALTON — For one afternoon each summer, Downtown Alton becomes a showcase for what happens when musicians, artists, independent businesses, and craft beverage producers come together. That's the idea behind Rock the Hops, returning Saturday, Aug. 8, for six hours of live performances, regional tastings, and discovering the people and places that make Alton's creative district unique.
From 2 to 8 p.m., festival goers can discover 28 original musical acts while sampling more than 40 styles of craft beer, seltzer, cider, coffee, and other regional beverages at five participating venues: Bossanova, Old Bakery Beer Company, Post Commons, The Conservatory, and Flock. Complimentary shuttle service makes it easy for ticket holders to hop between venues throughout the afternoon and experience everything the festival has to offer.

Between venue stops, visitors often discover Downtown Alton's restaurants, shops, galleries, and other independent businesses, making Rock the Hops as much about exploring the district as it is about the music and tastings. The walkable downtown creates an inviting setting where visitors can experience Alton's vibrant creative and small-business scene.
Since its debut in 2015, Rock the Hops has grown into one of the Riverbend's signature music festivals, offering audiences the chance to discover songwriters and bands performing music they created themselves in an intimate downtown setting.
"Rock the Hops has always been about bringing people together," said organizer Hope Mader. "When creatives and local businesses collaborate, everyone benefits. People come for the music, but they leave with a new appreciation for Alton and the people helping shape its creative culture."
Over the years, Rock the Hops has featured more than 200 musical performances by over 800 musicians, plus hundreds of artists and makers, and more than 100 regional craft beverage producers. Today, the festival welcomes approximately 1,500 attendees each year, attracting visitors from throughout the St. Louis region, the Chicago area, and beyond, including guests from outside Illinois and Missouri. The festival continues to bring performers, beverage makers, venues, and downtown businesses together while providing an economic boost to area restaurants, shops, galleries, and participating venues.
Rock the Hops takes place Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, from 2 to 8 p.m. Advance tickets are available now at rockthehops2026.eventbrite.com. Because the festival has sold out every year, attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets early. Ticket holders receive a commemorative tasting glass, samples of more than 40 styles of regional beverages, and complimentary shuttle service connecting all festival venues throughout the day.
Every ticket purchased helps support a festival dedicated to independent artists, local entrepreneurs, and the collaborative spirit that helps make Downtown Alton a destination for music, art, food and beverages, and connection.
