Roxana Battles Back But Falls to Chicago Noble Prep, 34-29

Roxana erased an early 14-point deficit and grabbed a fourth-quarter lead, but Chicago Noble Prep delivered the final blow in a 34-29 road victory.

ROXANA — Chicago Noble Prep jumped out to an early 14-point lead Friday night, but Roxana refused to go away.

The Shells battled back from a 14-0 deficit and eventually took the lead in the second half before Chicago Noble Prep rallied late for a 34-29 victory over Roxana at home.

Chicago Noble controlled the opening quarter.

Eric Henderson scored on a 7-yard touchdown run to put Noble on the board. The visitors followed with a successful two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead.

With 5:49 remaining in the first quarter, Karion Young hauled in a 48-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was unsuccessful, leaving Chicago Noble with a 14-0 advantage after one quarter.

Roxana answered in the second quarter.

Running back Mekhi Shorter scored on a 2-yard touchdown run. The extra point was no good, but the Shells had cut the deficit to 14-6.

Shorter struck again with 4:05 remaining before halftime, scoring on a 7-yard run. Roxana converted to tie the game at 14-14 heading into halftime.

The Shells carried that momentum into the third quarter.

Aiden Stemm scored on a 2-yard touchdown run, giving Roxana its first lead of the night at 22-14.

Chicago Noble responded with a safety, cutting Roxana's lead to 22-16.

With 2:12 remaining in the third quarter, Bryce Brown scored on a 2-yard touchdown run, tying the game at 22-22 entering the fourth quarter.

The back-and-forth battle continued in the final period.

Nazeir Ziegler put Chicago Noble back in front with a 17-yard touchdown run, making it 28-22.

Roxana answered once again.

With 5:37 remaining, quarterback Cohen Dugan kept the ball and scored on a quarterback keeper. The Shells' conversion gave Roxana a 29-28 lead.

But Chicago Noble had one final answer.

With just 1:53 remaining, Zylin Lewis scored on a 3-yard touchdown run, putting Noble ahead 34-29.

Roxana was unable to regain the lead in the closing minutes as Chicago Noble held on for the five-point victory.

The loss was a tough one for the Shells, who overcame a 14-point first-quarter deficit and held a fourth-quarter lead before Noble scored the game's final touchdown.
