SOUTH ROXANA - For the second time in two days, South Roxana Police responded to a standoff, this time involving an armed suicidal subject barricaded inside a residence in the 400 block of Roxana, where officers worked to resolve the incident peacefully.

The South Roxana Police Department said officers established a perimeter and communicated with the subject during the incident. Because the residence was near Dads Club Park and the American Legion, both organizations were notified and asked to remove individuals from their premises as a precaution.

After a brief standoff, the subject came outside peacefully and was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported.

The subject was transported to a neighboring hospital for medical evaluation. Police said the subject’s name is being withheld because of the personal and medical nature of the incident. The department said it hopes the individual receives the mental health treatment and support they need.

“This has been a busy couple of days for our officers,” South Roxana Police Chief Bob Coles said. “I’m thankful that both situations ended peacefully and, most importantly, everyone went home safe. I also appreciate Roxana and Hartford Police for being there to assist us when we needed them.”
