SIUE to Host Screening of ‘A Black History Tour of St. Louis’ in October

The free public event at Dunham Hall Theater on October 26 will feature the award-winning documentary and a Black Studies welcome reception starting at 4:45 p.m.

EDWARDSVILLE — Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, the College of Arts and Sciences and Black Studies will host a free public screening of the documentary film “A Black History Tour of St. Louis” on Monday, Oct. 26, in Dunham Hall Theater, 1 Hairpin Drive, to celebrate local art, history and diverse voices.

The event will begin with a Black Studies welcome reception at 4:45 p.m. and is open to the SIUE student body, faculty, staff and Metro East communities.

“A Black History Tour of St. Louis” is an award-winning documentary described as a local odyssey into the little-known historical presence of African Americans in St. Louis, Missouri. The film tours neighborhoods and communities shaped by African American presence, a lineage connected to St. Louis, the state of Missouri and American cultural history.

The documentary is narrated by Father Gerry Kleeba of St. Louis and directed by Tony West.
