South Roxana Police Warn Drivers To Keep Away from Madison Street-Sinclair Avenue Area After Flash Flood

SOUTH ROXANA — Flash flooding in South Roxana on Monday morning, June 8, 2026, was isolated to one intersection, Police Chief Bob Coles said late Monday morning, as authorities urged people to avoid the area until the water recedes.

Coles said the flooding was at Madison Street and Sinclair Avenue, where a roughly 500-foot block of roadway was closed until the water subsides. He said both nearby retention ponds were full because of the torrential rains on Monday morning, June 8, 2026.

Coles urged residents to stay away from the area while the pumps work to lower the water. However, many were observed driving through the standing water on Monday morning, despite warnings.

“People should avoid the area until Mother Nature gives us time for the pumps to do their job and drain down and take water off the roadway in these types of situations,” he said.

Coles also said flooding was not limited only to that location, adding, “With rains as strong as that was, flash flooding could be everywhere."

The National Weather Service in St. Louis said temperatures could climb to the 90s, and humidity will be high with heat indexes in the low 100s.

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, the National Weather Service in St. Louis said there is potential for some more powerful storms, tornadoes, damaging winds, or hail.
