Tech Remove is presenting the event in partnership with the Troy/Maryville/St. Jacob/Marine Chamber of Commerce and participating community partners.
Organizers are especially seeking laptops, desktop computers, tablets and cellphones, whether working, broken or outdated. Other accepted items include printers, computer monitors, televisions, networking equipment, stereos, gaming systems, cables, cords and other household electronics.
“Community recycling doesn't have to be complicated — and it certainly doesn't have to be boring,” said Howard Salter of Tech Remove.
Most accepted electronics can be recycled at no charge. Fees are $20 for LCD or flat-screen televisions, $30 for CRT or projection televisions and $5 for CRT monitors. Appliances will not be accepted.
The event is intended to help residents clear unwanted electronics from their homes, recover reusable materials and keep devices out of improper disposal streams.
Residents of all ages are encouraged to attend in costume. Tech Remove employees also plan to dress for Halloween, and the company’s mascot, Maybelle, will appear as a four-legged Ghostbuster.
Organizers are working to involve the St. Jacob Lions Club, local Scouts, area businesses and other community organizations. They also are exploring participation by a local coffee vendor.
A charitable component remains under consideration. One proposal would invite residents to bring dog food, cat food or other pet supplies for a local animal shelter or rescue organization.
Additional community partners and activities will be announced as plans are finalized.
