St. Louis Board President to Call Extra Summer Meetings on Data Center Zoning Bill

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Board of Aldermen President Megan E. Green said Tuesday that she plans to call two additional meetings during the board’s summer recess to advance legislation setting zoning regulations for data centers in the city.

Green announced the move July 7, ahead of the Board of Aldermen’s final regular meeting before recess on Friday, July 10. The additional meetings are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, July 20, and Friday, July 24. The board will resume regular meetings on Friday, Sept. 11.

The legislation, Board Bill 49, would set formal zoning regulations on data centers in St. Louis. According to the announcement, the bill follows more than a year of work by the Planning Commission and Planning Department staff. The Planning Commission approved the measure June 10, and Alderwoman Anne Schweitzer introduced it June 18. The board’s HUDZ Committee has held three public hearings on the bill.

“We know that residents are especially concerned about the potential negative impacts of data centers, whether that’s environmentally, economically, or morally,” Green said. “As a resident myself, I share those concerns, and that’s why it’s so important we move with a sense of urgency to get these regulations codified as soon as possible. We can’t afford to wait until September.”

Green said the additional meetings are intended to move the bill forward during the recess, which begins July 10.

The announcement said passage of Board Bill 49 would add to what it described as the first three months of the 2026-27 legislative session, during which the Board of Aldermen passed several measures, including Board Bill 1 approving the fiscal year 2027 operating budget before the July 1 deadline, Board Bill 9 approving lump sum payments for city workers in addition to raises approved in Board Bill 1, Board Bill 22 allocating Rams settlement funds, and Board Bill 25 approving water rate increases for water infrastructure upgrades.
