St. Louis Woman Charged In Edwardsville Schnucks Burglary

EDWARDSVILLE – Felony and misdemeanor charges have been filed against the latest St. Louis woman accused of burglary in Edwardsville.

Brittney L. Sawyer, 31, of St. Louis, was charged on Jan. 21, 2026 with a Class 2 felony count of burglary and a Class A misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property.
Sawyer allegedly knowingly and without legal authority entered the Schnucks location at 2222 Troy Road in Edwardsville while the building was not open to the public for business with the intent to commit a theft on Nov. 27, 2025. On the same date, she reportedly caused damage to a set of dock doors on the property.
A petition to deny Sawyer’s pretrial release from custody was filed in this case by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. According to the petition, Sawyer “entered Schnucks after hours, forcing her way through a dock door.”
“Defendant is observed on video collecting items in a trash can throughout the store, then leaving the scene prior to police arrival,” the petition states. “She was identified with facial recognition and confirmed by officers familiar with her appearance from other burglary investigations.”
The petition adds Sawyer has “fled, hidden and concealed herself from police” after prior contact with officers on Jan. 9 and Jan. 21, 2026. The Edwardsville Police Department presented the case against Sawyer, who was ordered remanded to jail for her initial appearance in court.
This case marks the latest reported Edwardsville burglary by a St. Louis woman in recent weeks. The charges against Sawyer were filed the same day two other women from St. Louis were charged with burglarizing the same vacant former medical building in Edwardsville twice within two weeks.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
