Stillwater Senior Living Female Athlete of Month: Granite City Senior Sydney Houston Excels in Fall Golf Season

Sydney Houston.GRANITE CITY - Sydney Houston emerged as a key player for Granite City High School’s girls golf team during the fall 2025 season, demonstrating consistent performance and skill on the course.

The senior golfer, recognized as the Stillwater Senior Living Female Athlete of the Month, is praised by coach Ginger Harrison for her strong drives and strategic play.

Harrison described Houston as a "consistent player" who averaged drives of about 200 to 215 yards.

“She was a smart player in her club choices and reads the greens well,” Harrison said.

Harrison also noted that all members of the girls' golf squad were outstanding students, highlighting the team’s academic achievements.

The Granite City High girls' golf team has a history of academic success, with the squad earning the IHSA Academic All Award for six consecutive years, according to Coach Harrison.

Houston, who plans to major in nursing in college, has committed to the University of Mississippi for the upcoming fall 2026 semester. In a statement, Houston expressed excitement about her college plans and shared some personal interests, including golfing, shopping, playing pickleball, and attending concerts.

Chris Mitchell, public information officer for Granite City School District, agreed that Sydney is "a great kid" and also is the boys' basketball manager.
