Two Alton Men Charged In Domestic Battery Cases

New charges filed in separate cases against Alton men with prior domestic battery convictions.

ALTON – Two Alton residents face felony charges in their latest Madison County cases of domestic battery.

Antonio L. Carter, 37, of Alton, was charged on Feb. 13, 2026 with a Class 2 felony count of aggravated domestic battery and a Class 4 felony count of his second or subsequent offense of domestic battery.

Carter allegedly knowingly caused great bodily harm to a household or family member without legal justification on Jan. 24, 2026, resulting in significant injury to the victim. Charging documents state he had previously been convicted of domestic battery in a prior Madison County case from 2022.

Carter was remanded to jail for his initial court appearance in this latest case, which was presented by the Alton Police Department.

Another Alton resident was charged in a separate domestic battery case filed on Feb. 11, 2026. 44-year-old Sean M. Scroggins was charged with a Class 4 felony count of his second or subsequent offense of domestic battery.

Scroggins is accused of knowingly and without legal justification causing bodily harm to a family or household member on Oct. 29, 2022, after previously being convicted of domestic battery in 2021, also in Madison County.

The Hartford Police Department presented the latest case against Scroggins, who was ordered released from custody pending trial.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
