Wood River Approves $313,000 Police Body Camera Rental Agreement

WOOD RIVER – The Wood River Police Department has secured new body cameras and related equipment for the next decade.

Wood River City Council members unanimously approved a purchasing agreement between the city and Axon Enterprises, Inc. for police body cameras and associated equipment and software at their April 6, 2026 meeting.

The agreement totals $313,128.12 to rent 20 Axon body cameras, three docking charging stations and wall mounts, as well as unlimited cloud storage, 21 user licenses for Axon Evidence Pro, and other software products.

Police Chief Brad Wells informed city officials that Wood River’s current contract with Axon is set to expire in April of 2026, according to the resolution, prompting the need for a new contract.

The total amount is set to be paid in annual installments each June from 2026 to 2035. The agreement, covering equipment rental and software services, is valid for the next 10 years.

Alderman David Ayres noted significant savings for the city under the 10-year contract. In their price quote to city officials, Axon estimated the city’s annual savings under the agreement will average $19,545.53, which amounts to $195,455.28 in total savings over the full term of the contract.
