Wood River Man Detained On Weapon Possession Charges
Police find multiple firearms while conducting search warrant on home of Wood River man who claimed weapons had been “turned over to family.”
WOOD RIVER – A Wood River man with prior pending felonies faces three more felony charges after multiple firearms were reportedly found in his possession after his FOID card had been revoked.
Craig A. Yost, 43, of Wood River, was charged on Oct. 28, 2025 with three Class 3 felony counts of possession of a firearm while his Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card was revoked.
Yost was allegedly in unlawful possession of a Tennessee Arms CO AR-platform rifle, an Aero Precision M4E1 AT-platform rifle, and a CZ 79 pistol on Oct. 27, 2025, when his FOID card had been revoked.
A petition to deny Yost’s pretrial release from custody, filed by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office, states the Wood River Police Department received a “clear and present danger notification” from the Illinois State Police which indicated Yost’s FOID card had been revoked and that he “was wanted on multiple active warrants, including failure to appear on cases where he was already on felony conditions of release.”
“Officers contacted defendant, who stated that all weapons had been turned over to family,” the petition states. “Officers were concerned that defendant was not being honest and obtained a search warrant for defendant's residence, finding three additional guns still in his possession after clear notification was given.”
Yost then reportedly “declined to disarm after clear indications from law enforcement.” The petition adds Yost has multiple pending felony cases and has repeatedly failed to appear in court.
The state’s petition was granted, with a Detention Order filed in this case reiterating his pending felony cases and previous failure to appear in court.
The Wood River Police Department presented the case against Yost, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
