Wreaths Across America Once Again Honors Veterans in Alton Ceremony
The 19th annual event will lay 560 wreaths at Alton National Cemetery to remember the fallen and honor those who serve this December.
ALTON - At 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, Wreaths Across America will remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and teach children the value of freedom at the Alton National Cemetery at 600 Pearl Street, Alton. This mission is accomplished by the laying of Veteran Balsam wreaths on the 560 graves by children and Veterans. This year will be the 19th annual event.

This year's theme for WAA is “KEEP MOVING FORWARD”. The thought behind this message is this...There will always be challenges to overcome as individuals, communities, and a country, but we must keep moving forward together. The resilience of the many individuals who choose to continue to live with purpose every day and do so by their decision to “keep moving forward.”
Wreaths Across America is a national organization that began as a grassroots effort and has spread to over 5,000 locations across the country and abroad.
To make this a success every year, it takes hundreds of volunteers and donations. Some of the people involved are the Illinois Patriot Guard, Argosy Casino, VFW Post 1308, Alton HS ROTC, Ignite Youth Chorus, students from East Elementary in Alton, Williams Family Dove Release, Buglers from Alton High School, and many more volunteers, in addition to a dedicated committee that spearheads this effort every year.
Parking at the site is limited. Additional off-site parking is available at the Auxiliary lot of Fast Eddie’s Bon Aire, and a shuttle service is available to take you the short distance to the cemetery.
Again this year, in addition to the 560 wreaths needed to honor all those at rest at the Alton National, the Wreaths Across America committee will offer wreaths to individuals who have a Veteran loved one laid to rest at sites other than the Alton National. These wreaths must be reserved through Sue Fitzgerald at 618-530-1430 from Nov. 11, 2025, and end on Dec. 1, 2025. When you call, please give your name, the name of your veteran, branch of service and cemetery. Wreath pickup will be after the service on Dec. 13, 2025, at the Mausoleum at the Alton City Cemetery.
