Cloyed R. Boomershine.ALTON - Alton native Cloyed R. Boomershine served as a ball turret gunner in the 8th Air Force during World War II from 1941 to 1945.

Boomershine, who died on July 10, 1994, was always proud of his Air Force service and of his family.

His role as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 bomber placed him in a critical position responsible for defending the aircraft during missions.

Boomershine’s service reflects the commitment of many who served in the Air Force during World War II.
