Edward Gray

Edward Lee Gray, 77, of Asheboro, NC died Friday, August 11, 2017 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro, NC.

Born in Mozier, IL on October 16, 1939, Mr. Gray was the son of the late Burse and Ina Gray. He was retired from Boeing and served in the US Army. He was a founding deacon of East Alton Church of Christ in East Alton, IL, and current member of Meadowbrook Road Church of Christ in Asheboro, NC. Mr. Gray played the guitar and was a storyteller who loved bluegrass music and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Edith Webster Gray; daughters, Brenda Bennett (Robert) of Fort Lawn, SC, Sheryl Hettinger, of Asheboro, Patricia Betts (Ron) of Franklinville; sons, Kenneth Gray of Ramseur, Michael Gray (Cammie) of Acworth, GA, James Gray (Heather) of New Bern; sister, Elaine Stolze, of Godfrey, IL; grandchildren, Ashley Gray, Tyler Gray, Nicholas Bennett, Angel Bennett, Matthew Bennett, Sophia Zimmerman, Tony Zimmerman, Shawn Zimmerman, Courtney Hettinger, Andrew Hettinger, Breanna Gray Godfrey, Jacob McCann, Kelsey Gray, Hannah Gray, Kaitlin Gray, Payton Gray, Collin Gray, Crystal Swain, Michael Swain, Mark Swain; great-grandchildren, Zebadiah Zimmerman, Michael Zimmerman, Jordyn Westfall, Dakota Westfall, Austin Westfall, Lynkston Hettinger and William Godfrey.In addition to his parents, Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Gray Bonner; granddaughter, Hope Kristin Zimmerman; sister, Esteline Gray; brothers, Ernst "Jim" Gray, Jesse Gray, William Gray, Estes Gray and Harry Gray.Visitation will be from 9:30 am until time of funeral service at 11 am at Gress, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin on Monday, August 21, 2017, with Pastor Forrest McMurray officiating.  Burial will follow at Poore Cemetery in Mozier, IL, with full military rites by the Kampsville American Legion.Memorials may be made to Poore Cemetery in Mozier or Alzheimers Association and or the East Alton Church of Christ.Online condolences and guestbook may be found at www.gresskallalschaaf.com
