Kathleen Zimmerman

Dow |

Kathleen Mae (Gettings) Zimmerman, 57, died at 10:33 p.m., Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Willow Rose Rehab & Health Center in Jerseyville.

She was born in West Dundee, IL on October 3, 1960 and was the only daughter and one of four children born to Jim & Carol (Ross) Gettings.

Kathy graduated from Jersey Community High School and started her lifelong career at Willow Rose Rehab & Health Center where she has worked for the past 37 years prior to her cancer diagnosis.

She fought an intense two month battle with cancer and was placed on hospice, at which time she chose to return to Willow Rose; the very place she had put her heart and soul into helping others for so many years.

She married Larry Zimmerman on September 8, 1990 and together they have shared in 27 years of marriage.

If Kathy wasn’t at work helping others, then she was usually volunteering her time to help others. Some of the many organizations that she happily volunteered for included the Jersey County War Memorial, Illinois Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Springfield, VFW’s, Illinois American Legions and their Ladies Auxiliary, Illinois Association of County Veteran Assistance Commission and the Marine Corp League and their Toys for Tots Program.

Kathy also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping, fishing and always enjoyed a good “girls day” with her granddaughter.

Surviving are her parents, Jim & Carol Gettings of Jerseyville; her husband, Larry Zimmerman of Dow; her children and their spouses, Laurie & Robert Hoffman of Belleville; Jeffrey Zimmerman of Arkansas Pass, TX; Larry & Maureen Zimmerman of Moro; April & Chris Daley of Jerseyville and Josiah & Cassandra Zimmerman of Alton; her grandchildren, Mariah, Cameron, Malachi, Cory, Alexis, Kara, Makayla, Breonah and Owen; three brothers and their spouses, Bobby & Alice Gettings and Roger Gettings, all of Jerseyville and Roy & Rachel Gettings of Grafton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her paternal in-laws, Wayne & Vera Legate.

A Celebration of Kathy’s life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 28, 2017 at the Pere Marquette State Park Pavillion on the Riverfront.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to one of the many programs she spent many years helping, the Marine Corp League Toys for Tots Program.

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is assisting the family.
