Alberta Brangenberg

Jerseyville |

Alberta Marie (Richter) Brangenberg, 86, died peacefully at 1:35 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.

She was born on September 3, 1931 in Batchtown to the late Frederick William and Zelora Catherine (Eschbach) Richter.

She married Paul E. Brangenberg on April 15, 1952 and together they were blessed with nearly 27 years of marriage before his death on April 1, 1979.

Alberta will always be fondly remembered and admired by her family and friends for her kind, loving and caring nature. She loved to cook and bake; family and friends always looked forward to one of her “made from scratch” pies or cakes. She had an essence of bringing the family together around the dinner table, especially during the holidays, for one of her splendid home cooked meals.

She was especially devout in her faith and active in her church and community, often caring for the sick and the elderly. In addition, she was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Kampsville. Alberta had a big heart, a gift of giving and enjoyed helping others.

Alberta’s  strong faith, determination and amazing strength will forever serve as an inspiration to her family and friends after she suffered a stroke in August 2009 which left her disabled and a woman of few words, however; she remained God’s faithful servant. She displayed remarkable courage and stayed positive, finding happiness in any simple moment. Her smiling face will be etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.

Surviving are two daughters, Christine Dunn of Jerseyville and Lisa Drainer of Dow; four grandchildren and their spouses, James and Jamie Hoos of Marietta, GA; Casey and Jeremy Martin of Beardstown; Justin Timmermeier of Dow; Elijah Timmermeier of Alton; five great-grandchildren, Amber, Cody, Joey, Brandon and Nicole; as well as a brother and sister in-law, Edward & Marcella Richter of Jerseyville.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lela Schumann; a brother, Walter Richter; a granddaughter, Amanda Timmermeier and a son in-law, Gary Drainer.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father Marty Smith officiating.

Burial will be at the St. Anselem’s Cemetery in Kampsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools or to the National Stroke Association.
