Clyde Jones

Clyde W. Jones, 79, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018, at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born on August 2, 1938 in Alton, IL, the son of Clyde J. and Chlorene (Kirk) Jones.  He married Wilma “JoAnn” Elkins on June 14, 1957 in Alton, she survives. They had been married for 60 years.

Clyde retired from civil service after 30 years ending as CEO of 102nd ARCOM in St. Louis, and also served 36 years in the Army Reserves.  After retirement, he served as a Missouri state ambassador for the Army Reserves, and as a volunteer for the ESGR Program.  Clyde was presently on the board for the St. Louis Regional Airport and has orchestrated the Memorial Day Parade in Bethalto for the last 20 years.  He had served on the Unit 8 School Board from 1964-1986, Village Trustee from 1982-1986, member of the Alton Vocational Advisory Board from 1970-1986.  In 1985 Clyde purchased WBGZ with his brothers, served on the Madison County School Board, a member of Bethalto Rotary Club, serving as district governor from 1991-1992.  He also had served on the Police/Fire Commission Board and was very active in the Bethalto United Methodist Church and the Cemetery.  He always strived to be the first voter at 6:00 am in the elections.

Along with his wife, Clyde is survived by two children, Jill (Scott) Hamilton of Bethalto and Jeff (Melissa) Jones of Bethalto; six grandchildren, Jennifer Whitaker, Jason Arnold, Sarah (Randy) Naylor, Seth Jones, Sadie Jones, Casse (Trevor) Shaw; five great grandchildren, Jacob, Jalynn, Delilah, Jaeda, Mason; two sisters, Mary Lou (Gary) Lockard and Ruth Ann (Lowell) Reeves of Missouri.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by Ruth (Wood) Dresch, the mother who raised him; a son, Skip Jones; a great grandson, Dominic Whitaker; four brothers, George Dreith, Don Dreith, Louis Dreith, and Chuck Dreith.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, where Pastor Bill Pyatt will officiate.  Military rites will be accorded.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens

Memorials may be made to Bethalto United Methodist Church and/or Bethalto United Methodist Cemetery
