Anthony “Tony” Musso, 79, of Belleville, IL, born June 4, 1947, in Belleville, IL, died Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at La Bella of Mascoutah, Mascoutah, IL.
Tony had a passion for teaching, coaching, baseball, and his family. He retired after 36 years as a teacher, coach and athletic director from Central School District 104 in O’Fallon, IL. He always remembered his former students and players and loved seeing them years later and catching up. He met many lifelong friends while teaching at Central and enjoyed their “old coots” gatherings which allowed each of them to reminisce about old school stories, catch up on each others families and bring smiles to each others faces.
In addition to his coaching days at Central, Tony also coached his sons and numerous other children through Belle-Clair Soccer, Belleville Khoury League, and Belleville Parks & Recreation. Tony had the privilege to coach both his grandsons in Mascoutah Khoury League during their Tee Ball and Coach Pitch years. He also coached Belleville Legion baseball for many years with his brother-in-Law, Barney Elser, and in the Mon-Clair League while his son Brandon played. Prior to coaching in the Mon-Clair league, Tony played for Waterloo and Belleville and is a member of the Mon-Clair League Hall of Fame. Tony is also a member of the Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame of Greater St Louis. Not to be forgotten were his Althoff class of 1965 lunches, 1968 and 1975 Belleville Legion baseball reunions and the PSOP men’s group that he enjoyed so much to be a part of.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Beverly K. Musso, nee Elser, whom he married on June 13, 1970, and who died on November 23, 2016; his parents, Harry R. and Elvera F., nee Scher, Musso; a sister in infancy, Mary Louise Musso; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Barney (LaVerne) Elser; and a nephew, Brent D. Musso.
Surviving are his two sons, Christopher Musso and Brandon (Becky) Musso; two grandchildren, Austin and Nolan Musso; his brother, David (Sue) Musso; a brother-in-law, Bruce (Pam) Elser; and nieces, nephews, and their families.
