Betty Boyd

Betty Louise Boyd, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Warner Robins, Georgia.

Betty was born on June 29, 1930, to the late George Robert Gillson and Mitty Pearl (Ward) Gillson. She was a longtime resident of Alton, Illinois, where she and her beloved husband, Robert Gene Boyd, built a life together and owned and operated Boyd’s Sandwich Shop. Betty was also active in her local business community and proudly served as a past president of the Upper Alton Business Association.

In her spare time, Betty enjoyed bowling and cheering on her beloved St. Louis Cardinals. Above all, however, she treasured time spent with her family. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy, and the memories they created together will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved her.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Gene Boyd; her son, Jeffery Boyd; and her six siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Julie Greenwood (Brian); son, Kelly Boyd (Monica); grandchildren, Ezra Boyd, Kevin Boyd, Katie Palmquist (Jordan), James Ayres, Stephanie Copley, Ben Copley, and Zachary Copley; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Services celebrating Betty’s life will be held at a later date in Alton, Illinois.
