Betty Bast

Betty D. Bast, 92, passed away at 6:32 am on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

She was born on September 12, 1926 in Bethalto, the daughter of the late Chris and Pauline (Neumann) Schmidt.

Betty married John C. Bast on July 21, 1945 at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Bethalto, IL.  He preceded her in death on December 5, 1997.

Betty was the owner / operator of Betty's Variety Store for 10 years.  She was a member of OLQP, Zonta International, and Daughters of Isabella.  She enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, shopping, dancing, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by 3 children, Stephen (Sandra) Bast of Colorado Springs, CO, James (Wendy) Bast of Potosi, MO, John (Kimberly) Bast of Granite City; 8 grandchildren, Jenny (Tony) Davis, Jeffrey Bast, Nicholas Bast, Amber (David) Rogan, Andrew (Angie) Bast, Tyler Bast, Ashley Bast & Lukasz Kowalczyk and Alex Bast; 13 great-grandchildren, Arista, Tesla, Rielynn, Perry, Ella, Luca, Carly, Christian, Anna, Nathan, Amelia, Oliver and Elliot and 1 sister, Irene "Punkie" Connoyer of Bethalto

Betty was also preceded in death by her brother, Leonard "Bud" Schmidt.

Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of funeral mass at 11 am on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
