Betty Hunt

Betty May (Hodge) Hunt, 82, passed away at 10:00 am on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville, IL.

She was born in Alton, IL, on July 10, 1943, the daughter of Leonard Virgil and Clara (Schmidt) Hodge. She married L. Roger Hunt in Cottage Hills, IL, on December 22, 1962. They were high school sweethearts and celebrated nearly 59 years of marriage together.

God blessed Betty with many creative talents. These included a love of sharing The Gospel and working with kids. These gifts were seen in her sewing, crafting, leading vacation bible schools, teaching children’s Sunday school, babysitting, working as a teacher’s aide, and assisting with activities at a long-term care facility. She enjoyed reading God’s Word (she even wrote a study on how to read the Bible in a year), playing the piano, helping with her grandkids, playing games, giving to others, traveling with her husband, hunting for shells, and looking for four leaf clovers.

Betty is survived by her children, Cathy (Steve) Prewett of Fosterburg, IL and Paula (David) Fritz of Godfrey, IL; grandchildren and great-grandchildren:  Jeff (Kelci) Prewett and their children, Rylee, Emerson, Josie, and Hannah; Erin (David) Massey and their children, Maebry and Rosalie; Taylor (Jordan) Bodenbach and their children, Isla and Aurora; and Matthew Fritz. She is also survived by her sister Clara Choat and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, including Violet and Stephen Dorman and Steven Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister and a brother, Lois Pruitt and Melvin Hodge.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 7, 2026, beginning at 9:00 am until the time of service at 10:00 am at Gent Funeral Home on State Street in Alton, IL. Pastor Adrian Das will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL.
