
Bettylou Frances Cope, 87, died Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Regency Nursing Home in Clarksville, Texas from complications of a recent surgery.
She was born in Jerseyville on Feb. 26, 1929, the only child of George & Edith Mae (Allen) Cone.Bettylou graduated in 1947 from Jersey Township High School, and went on to attend Illinois State University. In her younger years, she worked for Inman Department Store in downtown Jerseyville, and in her later years at Wal-Mart. She was a faithful and loyal member of both the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville and the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.She married Clyde W. Cope on July 23, 1950 in Jerseyville, and they shared 48 years together before his death on Aug. 21, 1998.Clyde and Bettylou were the parents of two children, both of whom survive, Brad Cope and his wife Joan of Jerseyville and Vivian Prough and her husband, Jeff of DeKalb, Tx.; three grandchildren & their spouses, Heather and Justin Brown of Bedford, Tx., Aaron and Christi Prough and Michael Prough all of Euless, Tx.; three great grandchildren, Danielle Prough, Kennadee Brown and Seth Brown; along with Brad and Joan's children and grandchildren.Visitation will be from 2 p.m., Monday until time of funeral services at 4 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Brent Meyer will officiate.Burial will be in the Noble Cemetery in Otterville.Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville or to the Jerseyville Public Library.
