Bill Hert

Bill (William Edgar) Hert passed away in January 2026 in Jacksonville, Florida. Bill grew up in East Alton. He was a Wood River firefighter for many years before moving to Texas, then Georgia, and finally Florida.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence, his mother Verniece, and his son Billy.

Surviving is his wife, Mylan Hert of Jacksonville, Florida.

He is survived by his daughter, Dawn, and Kyle Kennedy and their children Sydney and Sawyer.

He is also survived by his sister Peggy and Gary Lang of Edwardsville, and sister Carole Rizzie of Whitehouse, Tennessee.

Scot Lang of Godfrey, Krissy of San Antonio, Tyler of Wood River, and Chris Rizzie of Whitehorse, Tennessee also survive.

Internment was at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida, with full military honors.
