
Brianna Alaine Scoggin, 28, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 6:02 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born June 2, 1997, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Brianna was the beloved daughter of Gloria Ballentine of Madison, Illinois, and Charlie Scoggin of Arkansas. She was employed as the Human Resources Director at Blue Circle Nursing and Rehabilitation in St. Louis, where she was known for her dedication and compassion.
Above all else, Brianna’s life revolved around her children, who were truly the center of her world. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to loving and nurturing them, leaving behind a legacy of unconditional love. Brianna will always be remembered for her loving, effervescent, and bubbly personality. She had a contagious laugh, a warm heart, and the perfect balance of sweetness and sass. She enjoyed scrolling on her phone, watching funny television shows, shopping, listening to music, and dancing—always finding joy in life’s simple moments.
In addition to her parents, Brianna is survived by her four cherished children: Nolan Patenaude, age 8; McKenzie Thompson, age 4; Elijah Thompson, age 3; and Izaiah Thompson, age 1; a brother, Mark (Christin) Smith of Oklahoma; grandparents, Lucille and Danny Reed of Arkansas; grandfather, Neil Scoggin of Arkansas; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laynee Patenaude, and her grandparents, John Ballentine Sr. and Gloria Kilcollins.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
