Cathy Piering

Cathy Piering - Fosterburg Cathy Ruth Piering, 75, passed away May 12, 2026 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born December 13, 1950 in Litchfield, she was the daughter of Kenneth Edwin and Ruth Marie (Atteberry) Scherer. She graduated from Concordia Lutheran College in Chicago and was a sales associate for retail department stores. She was a member of the Lutheran Womens League.

On September 11, 1971 in Cottage Hills, Cathy married Daryl David Piering. He survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a brother, Leni R, (Kerry) Scherer of Alton; sister, Julie A. (Lynn) Ewell of Meadowbrook; two brothers-in-law, Arnold Piering and Vernon Piering; and a nephew, Joshua Piering.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Monday, May 18 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River where funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 pm, Tuesday. Rev. Dr. David Schultz and Matthew Gehrke will officiate. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River where she had been a member. Marks Mortuary in Wood River in charge of arrangements.
