Charles Clinton Hitchcock Sr., 85, of Edwardsville, IL, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away unexpectedly at 11:00 p.m. Tues. Nov. 26, 2019 at Indiana University Health Methodist ER in Indianapolis, IN while traveling with family.
He was born Dec. 24, 1933 in Roma, GA to the late James Clinton & Opal Mae (Presley) Hitchcock.
On Mar. 12, 1951, he and Doris Fulmer were married in Rome, GA. She preceded him in death Nov. 28, 2012.
Charles was a US Navy veteran serving during Korea. He had been a slitter operator for Steelabrade in Granite City. He had been a member of the VFW and Granite City Moose. He was a member of Metro Community Church and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #113.
He is survived by a daughter: Doris Jean (Jimmy) Stout Sr. of Edwardsville; 2 sons: Charles C. (Debbie) Hitchcock Jr. of Park Hills, MO and Paul Allen (Becky) Hitchcock of Troy, IL; 8 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers: Marion (Katrina) Hitchcock of Ontario, CAN and W. Wayne (Jean) Hitchcock of Las Vegas, NV.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Mary Avery Hitchcock; and a grandson: Charles David Stout.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Mon. Dec. 2, 2019, at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial with military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
