Charlotte Herndon

Charlotte Herndon, 97, died at 8:14 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2026 at Delmar Gardens of O’Fallon, MO. Born May 21, 1928 in Wood River, she was the daughter of Henry and Elsa (Johnson) Hellrung. 

On December 27, 1948 she married Joseph Junior Herndon in Alton. He preceded her in death. 

Mrs. Herndon was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton and retired as a manager for Hoods Company. 

Surviving is a daughter, Jean Price (Keith) of St. Charles, MO, four sons, John Herndon (Alison) of Godfrey, Jeff Herndon (Vickie) of O’Fallon, MO, Jay Herndon (Karen) of Brighton, and Jerry Herndon (Kathy) of St. Charles, MO. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. 

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Herndon, a grandson, Joseph Herndon, four brothers, Denis Hellrung, Donald Hellrung, Ralph Hellrung, and Kenneth Hellrung King, and two sisters, Betty Cox and Iris Hellrung. 

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2026 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.
