Christopher Ottwell

Christopher R. Ottwell, 72, passed away peacefully at 12:37 p.m., Friday, September 18th, 2026, at Alton Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.

He was born on June 12, 1954, in Wood River, IL. the son of the late Herbert C. Ottwell Sr. and June R. (McDonald) Ottwell. Chris retired from the Teamsters Local 525 and spent many years driving for Kienstra Concrete and Beiser Concrete.

On July 9, 2009, in Alton, he married the love of his life, Mary Lou (Brewer) Ottwell. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2022, and we find peace in knowing they are back together again.

Chris had a huge impact on the lives of not just his family, but to all he met. Chris enjoyed the simple things in life; from spending countless evenings in his garage visiting with friends and family, to BBQs on the back patio, offering hours of tips and tricks to all that wanted to learn, miles of country riding in his buggy and younger years of motorcycle and fishing trips! He always had an “Open” door policy, everyone knew they were welcomed!

Chris’ favorite title was “Pa” and “Papa”; as his grandchildren were his pride and joy!

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Katie Ottwell of Fosterburg, IL.; grandchildren Samuel Ottwell and Jada Ottwell; his brother and his wife, Robert and Tina Ottwell of Jerseyville, IL., his sister Mary Wilson of Roxana, IL., his sister and her husband Virginia and Jerry Jarrett of Paducah, KY.; and many nieces, nephews, great nephews and great nieces.

He was proceeded in death by his daughter, Sarah Lynn Ottwell, brother Herbert Ottwell Jr., and brother Thomas Ottwell.

Celebration of Life to honor Chris with family and friends will be held at a later date.
