Darrell Francis Ralston, 73, of East Alton, went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2026, embraced by the love of his family as he entered his eternal home.
Born November 10, 1952, in Wood River, Illinois, Darrell was the son of Floyd and Geraldine Ralston. He leaves behind five siblings: Herb Ralston, Darren Ralston, Joe Williams, Chris Williams, and Debbie Buck.
Darrell's journey began in Edwardsville schools, followed by his first job at Community Feed and Seed. Answering the call to serve, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1970, bravely serving during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge in 1976, Darrell dedicated his skills and hard work to Kenstra Concrete, leaving a lasting mark on all who worked alongside him.
Words are simply not enough to describe the profound impact Darrell had on those around him. Whether boating and hunting with his sons, unwinding at his beloved cabin, the river was his sanctuary. Darrell was a master storyteller, forever remembered for his infectious laughter and love of poker machines. Among friends, he was known as “The Legend”—a title earned through countless nights of fun and laughter that created tales that grew richer with time.
Darrell's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by three devoted sons: Jamie (Stacey) Ralston and Brent (Myra) Ralston, both of Hardin, and Chad (Rachel) Phillips of Cottage Hills. As a proud grandfather, he adored his nine grandchildren: Clayton, Chase, Alexis, Alivia, Jacey, Blakley, Carter, Tanner, and Tucker, each a testament to his unwavering love. For over two decades, his loyal companion Donna stood by his side, along with her children Troy, Steve, Ricky, Mona, Jimmy, and Tommy, and their children, all loved dearly as his own.
Darrell’s legacy of love extends far beyond family. He had a special gift for making people feel like they belonged and loved them unconditionally. He shared a particularly close bond with Joe and Tarra Buckingham.
He now reunites with those who went before him: Darrell’s parents Floyd and Geraldine; siblings Danny Ralston, Sandy Naylor, Jeff Ralston, Dana Williams; sister-in-law Kathy Ralston; and nieces Joei Ralston and Kasandra Herrin.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Darrell’s extraordinary life on May 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at House of Victory in Cottage Hills, a gathering filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth that Darrell so effortlessly shared. At a later date, Darrell will be honored at Jefferson Barracks with a military service. Memorials may be made for the Darrell Ralston family.
