Denise Ellen St. Peters, 68, beloved sister and aunt, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis. Denise, fondly called “Nesie” by family, was born in Alton on September 18, 1951, the daughter of Donald and Dorothy (Collins) St. Peters. Denise spent her entire life in the Alton-Godfrey area, attending Marquette High School and later Blackburn College in Carlinville, where she graduated with a degree in business. Denise had a long career in nursing home administration and adult day care and veterans’ care management in the Alton-St. Louis area. After she retired, she continued to be a strong advocate for the elderly, volunteering with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), running seminars for seniors and lobbying on their behalf in Springfield. Community and social activities were a large part of Denise’s life; she loved the Alton area and seemed to know everyone in town. Over the years she was active in the Alton Junior League, served on the board of Madison County Catholic Charities and volunteered at the YWCA, Oasis Women’s Center and St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Denise will always be remembered for her kind heart, her sense of fun and her willingness to help anyone, anytime. She loved doing crafts, refinishing furniture, decorating, antiquing, and going to sales. Family was very important to Denise, who is survived by her five siblings and their spouses Don and Gerry St. Peters of Indianapolis, IN, Darlene Watts of Alton, Dale and Nancy St. Peters of Alton, Doug St. Peters of Godfrey and Danelle St. Peters of Alton as well as sixteen nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews who all remember “Aunt Nesie” with love and affection. In addition to her family she is survived by her three close friends from grade school, Mary Hoekstra, Judy Peipert and Jan Dorsey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Uncle Virgil St. Peters, brother-in-law Rick Watts and sister-in-law Jackie St. Peters. A private memorial service will be held at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with private burial at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. Father Steven Janoski will officiate. A public memorial mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Ambrose Community Outreach.
