Donald Rhein

Donald George Rhein, 92, of Belleville, IL, born April 26, 1934, in Belleville, IL, died Saturday, September 26, 2026, at La Bella of Freeburg, Freeburg, IL. 

Don Rhein is a retired farmer and previous owner of Meadow Lake Bait & Tackle. He also did work in Security during the time he and Janet lived in Florida. Don Rhein enjoyed many things including gardening, woodworking, and puzzles. Don also loved to fish, especially when he got to spend time fishing with his children and grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Leona, nee Vogt, Rhein; a sister, Lizetta Jane Beatty, nee Rhein; three brothers-in-laws, Walter Beatty and Kenny and Gary Harms; a daughter-in-law, Erin Rhein, nee Tullis; and a nephew, Shane Wahrenburg.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Janet Rhein, nee Harms, whom he married on January 14, 1961; three sons, Gregory (Christina) Rhein, David (Theresa) Rhein and Jody Rhein; a daughter, Laura Rhein; two grandchildren, Adam (Kelsey) Rhein and Nicole (Jeremy) Peyton; two step-grandchildren, Melissa and Mason Hagarty; two great-grandchildren, Sadie Lynn Rhein and Birdie Mae Peyton; four sisters-in-law, Gail and Kathryn Harms, Betty (Jay) Wahrenburg, and Judy (Tom) Luongo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2026, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, Freeburg, IL.

Service: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2026, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, Freeburg, IL, with Rev. Adam Hiles officiating.

Burial will be at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
