
Dorothea Lois Bovinett, age 96, of Maryville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Meridian Village Memory Care in Glen Carbon, Illinois, surrounded by love and compassion. She was born on May 29, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, a beloved daughter of the late Charles Houghton and Lois (Walker) Blanset.
Dorothea married the love of her life, Eugene Bovinett, on June 2, 1947, in East St. Louis, Illinois. Their marriage was one of deep devotion, love, and partnership, lasting until Eugene’s passing in 2001. Together, they built a life rooted in strong family values, faith, and enduring love.
A proud and devoted homemaker, Dorothea found her greatest joy in caring for her family and creating a warm, welcoming home. After raising her children, she enjoyed working part-time at Famous-Barr, where she formed many lasting friendships. Dorothea was truly the heart of her family—known for her kindness, gentle strength, and unwavering love for those around her.
She will be remembered as a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Dorothea treasured every moment spent with her family, holding each relationship close to her heart. Her legacy of love, dedication, and grace will continue to live on through the generations she so dearly loved.
In addition to her parents, Dorothea was preceded in death by her beloved son, Steven Bovinett Sr.; her son-in-law, William Lukowski Jr.; her sister, Mary Elberson; and grandson, Michael Bovinett.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Diana Lukowski of Maryville, Illinois; her grandchildren, Kenneth (Carrie) Lukowski, Jonathan Lukowski, Jason (Lacey) Lukowski, Michelle Bovinett, and Steven (Tonya) Bovinett Jr.; along with many treasured great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends.
In accordance with Dorothea’s wishes, no formal service will be held. A private family interment will take place at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
