
Drexel L. “Drex” Harvey, 89, of Moro, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026.
He was born on October 15, 1936, in Litchfield, IL, the son of Harold and Veleta (Bingham) Harvey. Drexel married Chiquita (Purdy) on October 10, 1976 in Wood River. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2009.
After earning his Bachelors in Science Degree at Peru, NE, Drexel was a teacher at Southwestern High School and many schools in Alton, IL. He enjoyed basketball, which he excelled at in high school and college. He also enjoyed fishing, softball, bowling, and mushroom hunting. He was a big Cardinals and Fighting Illini fan. Drex liked to be funny and make people laugh.
He is survived by his daughter, Nanette (Bill) Galbraith of Alton; grandchildren, Mitchell Harvey (Alesha) of Palm Bay, FL, Justin Galbraith (Leah) of Edwardsville, Amanda Galbraith of Alton, and Kasey Harvey of Chicago; and great-grandchildren, Emmalyn Harvey, Savannah Harvey, and Kayleigh Galbraith, and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, and wife, Chiquita, he was preceded in death by two sons, Richard “Rick” Harvey in 2005, and Brett Harvey in 2007, his siblings Darla Panyik, Diane Sutton, and Dan Harvey.
Drexel will be laid to rest in Grafton, IL, with his wife, Chiquita. His visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1 from 2 to 4:30 pm with the funeral service at 4:30 pm at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf funeral home in Bethalto.
